what’s in season from my go-to mag on being a southerner

On Sunday mornings, I wake up, grab a cup of coffee and settle in catching up on my reading.  Most Sunday mornings, I go through my Google Reader, as I rarely have time to keep up with it during the week.  But then there are the Sunday mornings that I have saved for my newest issue of Garden & Gun and Southern Living.  These are the mornings when I remind myself how to be a good Southern Girl.

Being the daughter of good, Midwestern parents who immigrated to the South (yes, immigrated – cause you know it’s a different world down here.), I didn’t get much schooling on the ways of the South.  And y’all know – there are “ways of the South.” So these Sunday mornings are my monthly lesson.

One of the things that I am loving about Garden & Gun is there illustrated guide to what is in season.  They pick a vegetable or fruit, give us a pretty illustration, then give us what to look for, how to cook it – short, sweet and simple.

I particularly love the posts on Summer Beans, Figs, Heirloom Tomatoes, and so many more.

Keep up with the whole collection online. Check it out and be inspired the next time you hit up the farmer’s market.  I know that’s what happened to me on Tuesday – gosh that heirloom tomato crostata was delicious. :)
